We are writing to invite your participation in the 2010 UW World Languages Day (WLD) event for high school students and teachers.  This statewide event, now in its 13th year, is a showcase for various aspects of world languages and culture and an opportunity for students to expand their global view of the world.  Planning for the 2010 WLD is underway and we are calling for presenters.

The event is scheduled for Friday, March 5th on the UW main campus in Seattle and there are a couple of ways of participating that we would like you to consider:

1) Come and join us as a presenter.  Presentations last 40-50 minutes and are geared to students aged 16-18 years and their teachers.  Topics for presentations are diverse – in 2009 we offered close to 200 sessions from mini language workshops, to world music, dance, study abroad programs presentations, career opportunities, storytelling and more.  Sessions are scheduled hourly between 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

2)  You can also choose to participate in the WLD Culture Fair.  The Fair offers high school students and teachers a fun and informal way to experience the diversity of the world at the UW and beyond.  In this setting you and/or representatives from your group or organization are free to speak one on one with students and teachers about your organization or program.

We hope you will consider joining us.  It offers a terrific opportunity to be face-to-face with the 1400+ students and teachers who come from all parts of Washington State.  In the past we have had limited funding to offer honorariums – however, due to the current budget constraints at the University, we will not have these resources for 2010 event.  We hope to be able to reinstate this funding in the future.  But we would be happy to cover the costs of renting rooms and equipment as needed.  In addition, we will cover parking on campus.

World Languages Day presents an excellent marketing opportunity for you or your organization.  The participation on the part of UW student organizations, faculty and staff as well as the collaboration from the community is what makes this event truly unique.

To participate, simply submit your session information via our online form at:

https://catalysttools.washington.edu/survey/confuw/43677.

The deadline for submitting a presentation is: Friday, November  20. Should you have questions please contact Leslie Rome-Nagata at 206-685-6431 or Debra Bryant at  206-616-1902.
